Hi all,

We have just bought a farm on the Isle of Arran in Scotland. Along with the farm, comes a Ferguson T20 with loads of original implements. It's in fairly good condition , a bit of rust here and there but apparently it runs perfectly. And that's the problem, we have no idea how to start this thing or even what to feed it as we have lost contact with the original owner. Can anyone help? can anybody suggest a place inthe UK, I can get a manual for this lovely old machine?

Any help gratefully recieved

Regards, Jeff.

Jeff,
Congratulations on your Fergie. Right in front of the steering wheel is a plate with a bunch of patent numbers etc. At the bottom it will have the serial number; the beginning of this is the model. TE or TEA is petrol, TEF is diesel, and TED is TVO for tractor vaporising oil.
The gear change lever has a position in the upper right marked "S" for start. Assuming petrol, switch the key to on (red light should come on), pull out the choke, and move the lever to S to start. (This is a safety feature so you can't start it in gear.) Also take not that just above and ahead of the toolbox is the sediment bowl, just above which is a fuel shutoff valve that may need to be opened by turning counterclockwise.

The original excellent service manual is still available in the UK - see the link below. When you get there, select "On line shop", then "Manuals", and then scroll down until you find the one with the grey cover which is described as "Massive volume". That's the one to get; I have a copy and it can't be beat.
Hope this helps,
Jim

Here is another site that may be of interest. Good luck with the Fergy. They are a great tractor and will run forever with a little care.

Jeff follow this link to a club in England. If they can't supply a source, post a reply, there's a source in California, U.S.A. for reprint originals of the owners manual and shop manual.

Jim,

So sorry but I am not a fellow Scot, only a mere Englishman, I hope that will not stop you helping. We have only just bought the farm and will be moving in the next week or so and getting the Fergie going is high on my list. I believe she has been running perfectly until the the last month when her old owners left and I'm led to believe she is very reliable except for a dodgy generator and as long as the battery gets a recharge every couple of weeks, she starts first time. I'm on the lookout for a manual and a few kind people have given me sites to try, one of which has the full shop manual.

Thanks to everyone for replying, looks like a really helpful bunch of folks.
