Boy the sparks where flying!!! Battery 1 was dead and I was installing battery 2. Got the right connections but when I put the negative on, the battery post let loose some sparks.
And ideas on why?
Thanks

Don't know for sure, but I have a thought. Since my '54 TO30 was converted to 12 volts, negative ground before I got it, I can't refer to it, but is yours positive ground?

Well, I couldn't check it rained all day..
However, I did have a look at the wiring and a kill switch
was added at the dash and it has a push button start switch on the dash too.
Everything seems to run into the starter switch. But I couldn't find a replacement at the tractor store.
I check with my Jnsen manuals and nothing looks close to what I got, It must of been jerry-rigged.

The logical problem is the starter switch contacts are stuck together. Disconnect the starter cable at the switch, connect the battery and check for voltage on the terminal. If the starter switch is grounded within ( one of the posts turned and cut through the paper insulation) you'll still get a huge spark when you attempt to connect the battery. If the switch is bad a new one is available at NAPA, Carquest or a MF dealer. Part no. is: Big A auto parts(defunct) BAS 317-23, NAPA ST26, Carquest DR2227P. I don't know the MF part #.
