Could someone steer me straight? I am looking to buy this ferguson tractor, the model number on the tag says only 56189. The guy says the local tractor parts store told him it is a 1953 TO-30
The tag says Harry Ferguson at the bottom. There is no TO before the number. A friend has a ferguson tractor and his tag has a TO before the number. There is no other markings or badges!!! I looked at the serial number section here on YT mag. and the only model that has a match is the TE-20 does this sound right??? I am getting the tractor for $800.00 it needs front tires, an air cleaner, right side foot board, a good bath and some paint. It runs real nice and the PTO and three point hitch work good. What do you think??

If it runs good and hydraulics and pto are as good as you say, buy it quick at that price, as Mark suggested. We'll figure out exactly what you got later. If Continental engine, it should have a number cast into left side of engine starting with Z120... or Z129.... That would tell us a bunch.

You need to determine if it is a TE or TO 20.
Does it have a Standard Motor co. gas engine or a Continental gas engine. Continental had the model and serial # on left side of engine by oil fill and the oil filter is inside the oil pan . Std. Motor engine has external oil filter and Lucas elec. early TEs had Continental engines with lucas electrics.
Check this for serial info.

Hey Steve

looks like a 1951 TO-20 to me.The serial numbers on the research page only give the starting numbers not the ending numbers.congratulations!!
