i have a 1955 international 300u with ipto that i just bought recently and it has a pto issue. when disengaged, the pto runs all the time and every few seconds the transmission will make a faint clunk noise but when engaged it does not make the noise. after i adjusted the ipto planetary and brake bands according to the manual there was no change except for the transmission clunk getting a little louder(with pto disengaged). in order to get the pto to stop spinning completely while disengaged, i had to really crank the brake band adjustment down. then instead of hearing the periodic clunk noise, the engine would severely bog down periodically instead. my guess is possibly the planetary band is catching momentarily or something else inside is binding? ive seen archived threads from 15 years ago on here for the exact same problem but the threads so old im not able to reply to it for an answer. im just looking for some advise from someone who already knows the ins and outs of these farmalls or from the originator of one of the older threads before i tear into the machine. i always like to ask questions first. any help is appreciated.
