The Royal Navel Lifeboat Institution RNLI operates life boats around the coast of Britain. Many have to be launched over the beach into the sea
In the 1930's In Britain several Case model L tractors were modified to make them waterproof. Roadless Traction {who later made 4wd tractors} fitted them with special tracks with rubber pads so they could travel over roads. And the engine & electrics were water proofed to enable them to drive into the sea with the life boat on trailer -
Some were replaced in the 1950's with modified Fowler crawlers. Most of the original Case L versions were purchased by collectors and preserved.
Today a specialised crawler which can be totally submerged is built for the RNLI - I'll put some photos on here soon
