I have the luxury of helping a friend out with his Bobcat 610 4 cylinder Wisconsin VH4D and the wiring is a mess. It also has an alternator however, it's not connected to anything. I've been searching for hours to try and find a wiring diagram that works with this key ignition setup. I've provided some photos and I really hope someone can help me out. He told me and I quote,

The little box fell and the wires got unplugged and I tried to fix it but it doesn't start.

We have a new starter coming as the one looked to be overtightened and in result cracked. It was also full of corrosion.

I've found some wiring diagrams that use a switch and a push button but none of them have 7 wires going to the ignition. Here is where I'm stuck and I really hope someone here can help me out. We're at the point where I'd gladly just install a switch and a push button but I honestly don't know where to put any of the wires as he didn't leave anything connected.

I did however find it weird that the head was positive with my power probe and than I found the shortest wire in the middle of my palm resting on the frame. It was hot and after I held it away the head no longer had 12 volts and went back to being a ground. The red light also had no wires going to it. I'm starting to regret getting into this mess.

The best part is, I have a degree in Automotive electrical but let's just say my teacher wasn't a big help (big waste of money) I can fix anything with a computer but I was unfortunately not given the knowledge of older equipment. I'd appreciate if anyone could spare some advice to possibly get this running again.

Thanks,

Conor

When we bought our 610 the wiring was bad and the engine stuck. Instead of muddling through the patched up wiring I completely removed and replaced all the wires and made my own. I followed the Bobcat 610 schematic but followed my own color code. I didnt use a plug. In one of your pics I see a non-original switch mounted. The console box originally has a key switch, red oil light, and amp meter. One change I made was replacing the amp meter with a voltage meter.
The 610 makes a good home-use chore loader.

I recently got the bobcat running after I proceeded to beat myself up for being stupid. For some reason I was making everything more complicated then it needed to be. I ended up tracing everything back and set up the ignition with the manual a member here so graciously provided me with.

I had a few other issues with it not getting any fuel. I ended up making a temporary gravity fed tank to get the fuel pump wet again. After that I put a new filter on it and she runs just fine off the integrated tank.

It runs awesome! For about 5 - 10 minutes. I checked the oil and found gas in it. While reading the manual I did see a recommendation of putting a fluid ounce of crank case oil in the cylinders. I'm going to try this but if anyone else has any recommendations I'd appreciate it

Thanks,
Conor
