I have a new to me 350C, have the tech manual, but am lost on what the tanks with plugs under the seat are. I've poured over the internet, and the tech manual and can't find the answer.
When i removed the plugs on top of the tanks (both left and right) under the seat, I see no fluid in them. Actually not sure if there should be???
Thanks in advance for any help offered.
Really enjoying this little dirt mover, and want to make sure it stays in top operating shape.

Post some pictures of what you are looking at. Valves for steering should be under the seat.

Will do tomorrow. The steering valves are between these two "tanks".

What is your entire serial number to confirm it is a ''C'' series not just 350 or 350B with 350C decals as the steering is different on the 350C from the 350 and 350B.

I think you are looking at the steering clutch housings, not tanks. A 350 or 350B have dry steering clutches (no oil in those housings), the 350C and 350D had wet steering clutches (those have some oil in the housings but are not filled to the top).

What is the title and publication of the manual you have? Your manual should have information on the steering system.

I'll check the manual now that I have an idea what they are called.

If you are using Modern View there is an edit function. you can use that to delete the text and pictures in the duplicate post, if you want. The post will remain but your text and pictures will be removed that way.

Your 350C is a diesel with the inside blade (E). Serial number 265910 falls in the 1977 range of serial numbers. The T at the end means it was built at JD's Dubuque plant.

The 350C has wet steering clutches and brakes, so there will be oil in those compartments. It will not be to the top, so it might be hard to see. The steering clutch housings are supposed to be a common sump (shares oil with the transmission and differential) and the transmission dipstick is where the oil is checked (and added if needed). Use John Deere Hy Gard or a UTHF oil that specifies it meets the current John Deere JDM J20C spec. The manuals may refer to J14 or J20A, those are outdated and J20C is the replacement.

You should get a copy of the Operator's Manual. It will have the info you need to service and maintain your crawler. The Technical Manual (TM1115) covers diagnostic checks and the in-depth repairs, not normal maintenance. You can download and save a FREE copy of the Operator's Manual from the JD construction and Forestry Bookstore. Here is a link to it.

Type OMT79469 (current Operator's Manual publication number for the 350C) in the Search Term Box at the top and click the search icon. It should bring that manual up for you. The view online is free as is the Download option. They also give you purchase options if you want to buy a printed copy, CD, DVD, or USB of the manual.

You can use the JD online Parts Catalog for your crawler. Here is a link to that.

Thank you very much for taking the time to clarify and the links to the manuals.
