Late Vac Steering--again!

There have been numerous posts over the years about taking up slop in the steering gear box on 51 and later VAcs. It has been a while, but one post said the bearing was no longer available. One from an H JD might fit as well as one from 30's Chevys. I just got my new Hemmings Classic Cars and new parts lists The Filling Station 800-841-6622 having bearing sets for 1923-40 Chevy's. Some one more knowledgeable than me would have to weigh in as to if these are the right bearings. They do not fit standard passenger or utility trucks from 1933-36 what ever that means. If you can get the gear apart enough to replace the bearings. They only come in complete sets of 4-inner and outer for both front wheels and they are $200 a set. I guess most of you will let it wiggle at that price.

We are talking about the bearing on the worm gear above the pedestal on the newstyle steering..not wheel bearings. I was under the impression that bearing was not available anywhere as a Case part, only old Chevy and now some say H JD. Maybe I was misinformed or I misunderstood. It would not be the first time for the first option and certainly NOT the first second or third time for the other.

John, I know you are right about that. When the discussion went on a couple years back and you didn't chime in then, I figured you didn't have them either.

So John, do you have that special Case spanner wrench that is needed to adjust that steering gizmo? Either to rent or purchase?
