WD45 fourth step.

After draining all the oils I topped them all off and set the valve clearances. Took the front end loader brackets off and installed the drawbar. Checked the brakes and botH the clutches for proper operation. Fired up the tractor and took it out of the garage and run it around the yard a bunch. Transmission and differential are nice and quite through all the gears. Happy happy. I have a question about the rad shutters on the WD that I have as a spare parts tractor. Did the WD45 ever have shutters on them or not. Thanks for now.

did u find the valve spec.? i forgot to give it to u. its a tight spec. i need to look it up in my book.

I own and have owned a W Speed Patrol for a few decades and it is based on the WC tractor and it has shutters as did the WC parts tractor I have. I have a WD45 and had a WD and both didn't have shutters

Radiator shutters were for kerosene burners to keep them HOT. Seen WC's and WD's with shutters but never a WD45.

The parts book doesn't show a difference between the WD and WD45, but I have heard guys say the 45 shroud never had the hole for shutters. As was said, the shutters were more for the distillate burning tractors to help keep them warm.

The 49 WD tractor I bought mostly for parts as it turned out had shutters. Maybe a holdover from the WC? It wasn't a tractor fuel engine.

Here's what I think probably happened: As time went on, gasoline became more accepted and available. Kerosene tractors, when they got overhauled, got gasoline pistons/sleeves installed instead (same price) and then quite possibly a new gasoline manifold and became a gas burner. The shutters got left behind and were never used again.

Don't knpw about AC but shutters were used on tractors without a thremostat, with the stat not needed.

My tractor does not have the hole for the shutters on it. I just thought if they where available on the WD45 I would put the one off of the parts tractor on. If not I wont.
Thanks for your help and everyone elses help as well.

Here's a photo of an early WD (low head, straight shifter, etc) that appears to have the shutters. All other photos I've looked into of later model WD and WD45s did not have shutters. That's just something Allis changed as they went along.

Wow thats a nice tractor. It appears they where putting shutters on some tractors prior to the WD45 just to get rid of them maybe. My parts tractor is a gas regular WD with a thermostat but has shutters. Any things possible. Thanks for the response.
