When I bought her the previous owner told us she had a bad head gasket. He had started to tear into her, but then ran out or ambition. So I bought the gasket set, a battery, new hoses and new belts.

Replaced the head gasket and found that all that was wrong was a bad water tube that was leaking next to head....

Replaced the water tube and re-plumbed the LP vaporizer since the lines were all rusted out. Filled her with water, then found I needed to recore the radiator.

Fired her up again and no hydraulics. The P.O. had removed the pump, reinstalled it wrong and broke it.... So I had it rebuilt. Fired her up again.

No low end torque but she sounds beautiful. Replaced generator with alternator. Drove her around until the rear tire went flat. New tube and three boots later fired her up again to take to the field.

The teloflow hydraulics leak... a lot. The engine oil filter blew out its' gasket (never seen that before). Then after about another 20 acres she died...

It seems we have numerous oil leaks, still no low end on the torque (it didn't heal itself...) and when we put the head back on we pinched the insulation through on the distributor wire....

Had I simply bought one and made payments on my credit card it would have been cheaper,,,,,, just not as much fun.

Today's Featured Article - It Can't Be Done! - A Tractor Story - by Neil Campbell. I'll never forget the time back when I was a boy baling hay on our Farm in Big Rapid, Michigan. The most memorable event that took place was a trip up the steepest incline on the farm pulling an old New-Idea baler with a pony-motor for power and a haywagon. I had just talked my Dad into buying an old John Deere B with 6-speeds ahead and I was real proud of it, except it was a little smaller than the Case tractor that we normally ... [Read Article]
