Good morning.
I have a Ford 2910 that has had electrical problems since I bought it (bought is used in 2003). The latest issue was, a couple of days ago I went to start it and it wouldn't start (solenoid clicking, flywheel barely turning). Checked the battery, it was putting out 12.6 V. So I jump-started it and checked the battery and alternator output - 12.6 V. I took the alternator apart, found bad brushes, figured might as well replace it. I replaced the alternator, jump-started the tractor - 13.9 V. I let the battery get charged up, turned it off, started it right away, it fired right up.
The next morning I tried to start - nothing, just clicking. The tester showed the battery at 8 or 9 V. I jump-started it again, let it get charged, checked the battery, 12.5 V. I figured maybe an electrical leak. So when I shut the tractor down, I took the negative cable off the terminal and left it that way overnight. This morning same deal - clicking, and 10 V.
What do you think? Bad battery, should I have also taken the positive cable off the terminal? I've got a bunch of hay down and this jump-starting is getting old. I am thinking of bying a new battery tomorrow, but I'd rather save $125 if that's not likely the issue.

In the rural area he grew up in, the highlight of the week was Saturday when many people took a break from their work to go to town. It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer. It was an Allis-Chalmers tractor dealership,
