You do indeed have a 1955 800 series. The 860 is one of the models offered in the 800 series. It should have a 5 speed transmission and a dual clutch which gives you live pto. I have a 1955 850 which is basically the same tractor only with a single clutch and non-live pto :( My serial number is 58704 so your tractor was probably built about a month before mine. The decal is a recent addition and is misleading. It fits so nicely because the 801 series used the same hood as the 800 series. The only difference in the hoods was the 800 has an embossed Ford script on the sides toward the front and the 801 hood does not. The 801 series was a mild upgrade over the 800 series. Both series had the same 172 cubic inch engine, but the 801 had a few more horsepower I believe. Also, the 801 offered more features and options such as power steering, a diesel engine option, Select-o-Speed transmission option, etc. Visually they look different due to the jazzier paint scheme and the square grid grille on the 801. Good luck with the electrical problems. Post your questions on the Ford board on this site to get more expert help than I can provide.
