Front face of fenders takes a similar beating on my small U/Ts.Currently I having decent luck with spray can bed liner,I believe from Dupli-color.A lil pricey at $12-14 retail,but I'd bought a couple cans to do the inside of my tailgate.(Note)It bonds to the paint/primer not as well to bare metal.The nice thing is that its very ez to touch up/recoat/build up if damaged.A good coat of etching primer would prolly provide a good base.I feel the dynamics of chipping is best handled by something that"gives" and cushions the blow,rather than shears off the surface(ala sandblasting).
