I have an IH 574 with hydrostatic steering that began leaking fluid. I purchased a new rubber seal from the dealer and reinstalled the lower part of the unit. While tightening the bolts, I heard a pop and it turns out after the steering wheel did not turn and disassembling the unit again that I had shattered the commutator into several pieces because the center gear had slipped out of the gap and ended up pressing into the commutator while I was tightening the bolts. I do not want to have to purchase another expensive commutator. Does anybody have any tips on the installation so I will not make the same mistake twice?
