I came close to purchasing a MF TO 35 Deluxe today but stopped when a mechanical (clutch/PTO) problem surfaced. Has anyone has experienced the same or a similar clutch/PTO problem and if so, was the "fix" expensive? Essentially, the PTO will not engage. It grinds with the clutch in and the PTO lever moved to "engine". The tractor has a two-stage clutch. Also, the clutch pedal must be depressed fairly far before the clutch will operate. The sale, which was near final, stopped upon discovery of the clutch/PTO problem. Otherwise the tractor seems okay. The hydraulics work fine, the tractor starts, it idles well, it doesn't smoke, there are no apparent oil leaks, and the tires are good. Its metal is rusted but not too badly. The seller (who genuinely seemed surprised by the problem) had recently installed a new seat, radiator, and gages. He was up front about a transmission problem that his mechanic fixed. I don't think he was hiding the problem. Should I stay away from this tractor? Should I ask him to reduce the selling price ($3200) and buy as is? Thoughts? Jim
