Well, yesterdays storm was 'damp squib' as far as we were concerned. The radio and television weather people were predicting dire things for us from Thursday morning onwards, for two to three days, with very high wind speeds and very heavy rain on saturated ground. I had a load of control systems for potato planters, sprayer controls and monitors for applying liquid fertiliser into the potato ridges that were urgently required for new planters, so we got up early and delivered them. Got a very nice lunch out too.
The storm missed us completely!!!! We had light rain and sunny intervals all day and listened on the radio to the storm progressing up the English Channel and around the coastline, Our Suffolk neighbours, to the south of us, got floods, blocked roads, blocked rail lines and ships sheltering in harbours with the cranes locked down and unable to operate. We did loose another bit of our coast line in one spot so we here are about another 200 feet closer to the sea shore. Thanks for all the good wishes, they obviously worked.

It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer.
