After two days of running around for it, the spare rake got home. Allis Chalmers no.7, 1957 or so, side hay rake. I think it's 9'. AND, it's also a tedder!!! Maybe this will end up being my main rake. I did break it on the way home though. The nice lady who sold it to me was following me to make sure it went okay that far at least, until I turned off the main road. I felt bad that she was wasting her day following me, so I went faster than I should've, I guess, and the one wheel that is a coaster-type wheel, 360* turnable wheel, threw a huge fit out of the blue, and jiggled the whole truck and all, and I stopped, and the casting that the top of the fork comes down from cracked all the way around. The core piece was still good enough to hold it all together. So upset that happened. Speaking of learning to weld..
So I was able to pull it the rest of the way home 20+ more miles, but had to go 10mph or less. Looks like an excellent rake though. $100 plus cost of running all around yesterday, having to get a new tire and tube on the rim before taking it home.

It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer.
