Was in Gulf Shores AL last night after hauling a load of equipment down, and was waiting for the rest of the crew to show up. Went up to where they were setting up for some sort of a fair at the Baldwin County Fairgrounds to kill some time. Had gone by and seen some tractors there, so went and checked it out. Talked to a real nice older fellow about red dirt, Oliver tractors, and growing cotton and Peanuts. Very interesting, know nothing about that stuff being from MI. Didn't take pictures of all the tractors there, but took a few I liked. Didn't get there until about 730 PM, so I was surprised anyone was still around there. Left for MI at 830 pm, got home about 230 this afternoon. Good ride, got to talk to lots more of them friendly southerners, and saw a lot of real nice country on the 2 lane roads through rural Tennessee and Alabama. Man was it hot and humid there. Also tried some boiled peanuts; sick!! Not sure how they got the tractors parked vertical and stay that way in some of the pictures... I've about had it trying to get the pictures to post straight, no rhyme or reason to it. Never used to have a problem with it.

In the rural area he grew up in, the highlight of the week was Saturday when many people took a break from their work to go to town. It was on one such Saturday in the early 1940's when Sam was 16 years old that he ended up in Dennison, Kansas to watch a demonstration of a new tractor being put on by a local dealer.
