In messing with sunflower seeds and a JD planter I had left a few seeds scattered on the floor of my shop. Next day I noticed all the seeds from the day before were gone. Ah-ha we have a mouse, made a water bucket trap (Google "bucket mouse trap") and set it next to the planter with a few seeds placed on the ramp. Used peanut butter with a few seeds stuck in the PB on the can. Next day had two mice in the bucket which I took care of.
Several days went by and seeds were no longer disappearing, then one morning noticed all the seeds on the floor were gone. Reset my trap with seeds on the ramp to entice the little bugger to try and get to the seeds on the can. Next day all the seeds on the floor were gone along with the seeds I placed on the ramp but no mouse in the bucket. This was strange as it had always worked so I reset everything along with more seeds on the ramp and closed up the shop. Next day same thing, seeds were gone but no mouse. Only conclusion I can come to is little sucker must be smart enough to not try for the seeds on the can.
