I kept having troubles with the surge protector on the phone line, it actually burned out my modem and motherboard on mothersday 2006 and I ended up building a new computer, it turned out the surge protector on the phone line that phone co installed did not have a ground on it at all, it never did. You need to check their protector, usually where the phone line comes into the house, it is supposed to be grounded frank
