Help! I have a 1973 IH 464 (46 HP) gasoline tractor that is fouls spark plugs like crazy. I have had this problem for several years and have just about given up on looking for the cause. Do all older model gasoline tractor engines have problems since they got away from leaded gasoline or is mine an exception? I have not changed the brand of gasoline I use, but have changed plug heat ranges, advanced ignition timing, overhauled and flow tested the carburetor, changed plug wires, plugs, points, condenser, rotor and dist. cap, all without any resolution to the problem. The plugs will get very black, the engine doesn't use oil, the tractor has 1600 hours on the engine, and I can sandblast or replace the plugs and it will run great for about two weeks of light usage and be right back to where it started, clean the plugs and start over. What about the older antique tractors ? Do they run fine with the unleaded gas, or do you have to run a special blend of some sort. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
