Only easy fix I can think of is if the drive end is worn off. It drives from a slot in the center of the cam shaft gear and you turn the adaptor housing in as far as it will go gently, then back it out to align with the tach cable. If that end is worn off you could probably build it up or maybe just try readjusting the depth it is screwed in. Other wise,reduction gears stripped out. Usually, the problem is that the gear actually turns but it won't turn the cable as the end of cable is worn out and the square drive inside stem is also worn. I have pinched a few together over the years, not necessarily on that model.
