They are buried, but I think they may be reached via the spark plug hole. I can't remember right now about the 6. I know they can on the bigger engines. That plug hole is large (18mm) and some skinny needle nose pliers can get a hold on the stem and work it, possible enough to loosen it. The spring is only rated for 25 pounds new, so they can stick easy. Usually it takes a little up action, and then a tap down from above, repeat as needed. Don't grab up high on the stem of course, and starting with a tap down motion first helps to break it free in the first place.
