Going in through the PTO hole works. There are two big bolts between the bull gears holding them to the splined axles. (drain the oil!!) Then loosen the head of the bolt on the side being replaced by blocking the wrench handle, and turning the wheel! I would block up the bull gear with metal shims under it to the case, to prevent it from moving when removing the axle, it makes putting it together much more satisfactory. Put a block (metal) between the head of the loose bolt and the head of the other one, and use the bolt as a screw jack to push the axle out of the bull gear. It is tight, it is greasy, it is a braille situation when your hand is in there, but it can be done. JimN
