Most were drained every nite and refilled the next day, this caused a lot of scale buildup in the block and heads, Also caused hot spots, especially on the sleeves,Eventually it caused the sleeves to crack, some didn't show up for years, others show up when the new antifreezes are used as they contain corrosion and rust inhibitors.Freeze cracks I have found will generally lock up the piston. My 2cents worth.
