Jim, that sounds like a good idea. I've had to do the same thing on a few skidloaders. Brian might not even have to go through the trouble of making a special cap for the reservior, mabey he can just stick a blow gun in there and hold a rag around the blow gun. I would do this with the engine off and the bleed screw loose like you say, if that didn't work I'd take the pump inlet line loose and pressurize the reservior until fluid starts flowing. Once fluid gets to the pump, the pump should pick up and go. On my little Farmall 240, which has similar hydraulics to a 400/450, the bleed screw is stuck. One time it lost prime after I did some work on the pump, so I cracked the pump outlet line loose with the engine running. Made a small mess but it worked.
