Jim , SN's on a C are 501 to 80,432 ....the SC no's are 100,001 to 198,310 BUT , the ser no is not always a reliable way to tell if it's a SC or not ( cause the seat base's have often been changed because of rust damage) ,,,,,,another way to tell a SC is by the brakes (disc) , headlights (SC had pancake , C had teardrop),& the SC had a water pump & C did not ......BUT these features are occasionally put on a C as an "update" - or just to replace worn parts so the only sure (?) way to tell is the "casting dates" - all the cast parts have a date on them ( month -day-year) with the year being a letter ......the tractor was most likely built aproxamately 2 to 3 months after the cast parts were poured ,,,,,and of course , this is not even 100% foolproof since a late 1950 C & an early 1951 SC would have similar casting dates (T is 1950)(1951 was U & later changed to W)(52=X...53=Y...& 54=Z ) ,,,,,,& to add to the confusion - did IH start makeing the 1951 SC in Jan , or was it Oct ( IH's "calender year" )??? i sure hope i did'nt confuse you !?
