I have a M with a straight pipe and it runs just fine. When I had a muffler on it , I always got exhaust back in my face. I bought one of those stainless pipes with the curved top and have it pointing out to the left side. I got the pipe at the IH dealer for about $100. He had them for the H and M. It sure looks nice and sounds good too. But, the best thing is no exhaust in my face. I use ear plugs when I am mowing, but it really is not that loud.
