The design of the TA on the 460 is such that free-wheeling is normal, but very potentially harmful. The TA is designed to provide more drawbar pull (or a slower speed) under load, not to hold back when going down hill. Many a TA has been ruined by pulling the lever back to let it free wheel going down hill. The TA lever must be ahead when going down hill (unless you are plowing or pulling another similar load that will prevent the tractor from free wheeling) or damage will likely result to the TA and you possibly could loose control of the tractor. That said, don’t be afraid to use it when you need more pulling power, just yank it back and enjoy the extra pulling it will give you.
