I don't know what you mean by gear shifter leaking? You may have a leaking gasket at the hydraulic fill triangle plate setting next to the gear shift lever but the gear shifter should not have fluid getting up that high to spill out the connection unless you have that rear end plumb full of fluid! Those gaskets on the fluid fill lid seem to get hard, craked or tore during the refills over the years. Migraine
