Yes but was he the origanel owner of the tractor? Guy Fays book says that yes it should have came stock with 4" pistond maybe the newer models just before the 400 series may have came with the 4 1/8 I am not completly sure on this . If they are domed pistons seems to me that split domes and IH logo on the top that they will be fire crators probly. I know when I took the head of my 53 SM there was no doubt that it had fire crators in it. I cant remember the exact looks in my mind. As far as fire crators go some times a step head piston has a step on one side that goes up and the M&W and fire crators have like two domes on one side with like a crator in the middle of them . I am sure one of these mechanics will correct me if I am way off here. I ahve not done only a few so cant really rember likesome of these guys that do it every day.But I dont know what you are planning on doing but my SM has been to 100s of pulls and places and won quite a few with the 4" pistons and a few other up grades.
