The setup you’ve got is very common. So long as there’s a ballast resistor is wired in series with the coil primary (to limit voltage seen by the coil to 6 volts) it’ll work fine. All the other electrical components (including the starter) are OK on 12 volts except for the lights. For the lights simply swap 12 volt bulbs into the existing lamp assemblies. Standard automotive single filament brake/backup bulbs (#1156 lamps) fit and work great. (Alternatively you can mess around with series resistors and operate the existing 6 volt lamps on 12 volts, but it’s a PITA...I don't recommend it!)
