There is a casting number on most cast parts, in the format of 1*8*T, (Jan 8, 1950). the * looks like a screw. For the letter series they run I thru Z. I is 1939, Z is 1954. U and W were both used in 1951, V was never used -- make yourself a chart. If it was built toward the end of the year, the castings will have differing consecutive letters. if something has been replaced of course the letter will be different. The Super H engine will have C164 in raised cast letters on the left rear of the block, the H engine will have no designation. The Super H has disk brakes with a cast housing held in place by 5 bolts. The H has band brakes, the covers are stamped steel. Also the engine serial is the same as the chassis serial on the H , but not the SH. Stamped on a raised boss under the number one spark plug. Will have the prefix FBHM.
