I would think you should be able to lift up on the outer end of the axle and determine whether there is any movement, you may need to also tune a fine ear to it, and listen for any type of sound that would indicate a bearing going out, or maybe just how it feels in your hand. Others could maybe shed more light on this,I certainly am not an expert. I would also recommend that you have that rim and tire assembly hanging from the loader before you get it completely loose from the cast center, if it gets away from you, you could be severly injured if you get caught under it. I don't know the weight of an 18.4-38 filled tire, but it will be extremely heavy. Take your time, and let the tractor and loader do the work.
