If you don't have to match row spacing or mower width then it's mostly personal preference. I think that wider is more stable, but too wide looks spindly. I don't like to have the axles sticking out past the tires, but I did have to slide the wheels in all the way to fit on a trailer. Nice thing about this kind of axle is how easy it is to adjust. Change on a whim. Wm
