M PTO Seal Removal From Retainer

Jog my memory Farmallers. I have the parts book open. I have the PTO retainer out along with the whole dang shaft (fingers thumping) on Old Raceway M. Do you pound out the seal towards the flange base? It has been over 10 years since I have done one of these. This one has the original double seal assembly and so far is not budging. This is the later style PTO assembly. Thanks in advance!
