Brush-hogged 6-7 acres over the last several days with my 1943 Farmall A, and it started misfiring. It sounded like a plug and/or wiring type of miss, so I put on new wires first...still missing, then I replaced the plugs...ran fine. The wires on the tractor were a mis-matched set that had been on there for years, many of which were idle years sitting in the woods. The plugs had been changed during my restoration that started just two months ago. The plugs that had been in the tractor when I got it were Champion D18Y. I replaced them in kind two months ago, and again yesterday. After some hard running in hot weather yesterday afternoon and today, it seems to be misfiring again. The plugs that I pulled out yesterday weren't burnt, not fouled, and looked normal to me...a little black but no build-up, with only 12 (approximate) hours of use. Now I'm wondering if I have the wrong plugs. What is specified, and what do others use as substitutes? Thanks for replies.
