An F-12 substitute muffler

We have an F-12 that we have recently gotten running to our great joy. I have seen many pictures and running restorations that seem to be devoid of a muffler even though I know they were an option available. While it may have been tolerable to operate in the open field sans a muffler, it is of somewhat dubious wisdom to run it in the shop without one. The period muffler shown in olds parts manuals that would be correct seems unobtainable. I have been told that the A,B and C models all employed the same engine as the F-12s and F-14s which leads me to believe that a muffler that would be designed for any of these would also work for our F-12. Our F-12 has a tailpipe OD of 1 3/4s inches. Would someone who has one of these A,B or C models verify if this is in fact true for an A,B or C as well? Or am I missing something real basic here? Does anyone know, can I simply substitute an A,B or C series muffler onto our F-12? I could of course simply "make it work" by means of an adapter but I don't want to just phony it on and not have the proper back pressure situation. Thank you to anyone who can help.
