Last Friday on Tales Board posted inquiry on what may have happened with my '46 H's trans as the nieghbor called to mentioned they hit a stump and the trans went out - will we did exploratory surgery Sunday - they pulled the hood, fuel tank, belt pulley, steering column and finally when I got there helped with pulling the deck over the trans - the lower drive pinion gear (believe they call it), was missing half it's teeth and 4th gear was missing about four - seems like they were in 4th when they hit the stump and busted a gear tooth on the 4th gear which then sheared off about half the drive gear teeth. Picked out several gear teeth laying around inside the trans. Good news is the rest of the trans looked great, even the side rails for the oil flow where actually really clean for 56 years of use. The neighbor will pick up the new gears and check the bearings, in the meantime he will flush out the trans. I picked up new gear oil as I wanted to change it anyway and no need for him to pay for that. Hopefully Clarence will be up and running great again after surgery. Now if the new trucks we buy would last half as long GM and Ford would be out of business. Jim
