today's funny

Reminds me of when I was sent on special assignment by the western regional manager to a different branch to observe and report to him. The sales guys all got drunk after a meeting, went for steaks and noticed a D8 dozer parked not far from the restaurant. They got the idea to start it, point it towards town and jump off an let the dozer go. Fortunately, none of them knew how to start a D8. I knew how, but I wasn't about to show those drunks.

Western Regional manager waited for a couple months after I left, then swooped in on Friday afternoon and fired everyone in the branch except the credit manager and the janitor. The company had a policy about alcohol.

that sure is a sobering memory that brings all the laughter to a screeching halt ,, So Sorry for Your Grief and Loss , Dr walt ..,. if it was 20 yrs ago ,, the pain is still VERY real ,,. God Bless You , and I wish you Peace..

Not so sure about the "funny" part, but there sure is a lot of truth in it. Alcohol is certainly the tool of the devil. I know of too many issues of alcohol causing tragedy. Drunk drivers top the list.

Guys, I'll stand with John. That is humorous, and I understand the reasons you find it not so.

BUT, it's not the bottles fault, you and I both know that, but the human on the operating end

The "operator" takes the first couple of drinks. Then, alcohol takes over, clouds judgment, reduces inhibitions, and recklessness takes over. No offense to Jon meant.
HOWEVER... I would never suggest re-trying prohibition, but I do think that penalties for drunken behavior should be strict and strong. There is nothing funny about a D8 being turned toward a town and left to run as stated in one post. Nothing funny about losing one's loved ones to a drunk driver. Those "great" ideas that come to people while in a drunken stupor lead to unintentional suicide or injury/death to others. This just wasn't funny. Period.

Note to Jon: I do appreciate your posting of funnies. I have gotten many a laugh from them, and they usually brighten up the day. This one was simply not funny, and borders on bad taste. Sorry. Been around enough alcoholics to see that this one is tragically true to life.

Nothing funny about being drunk. We lost our Marine hero, nephew to a drunk. He got a little over 6 years in the graybar hotel. According to culprit's lawyer, he was smoking marijuana daily - told judge this right in trial. He had a fool for a lawyer, still got off plenty easy. Sorry, we don't see the humor.

First, I am sure Jon can take a little criticism but I would sure want to take into consideration his efforts to entertain us on an almost daily basis and how difficult it is to find and put this material up. If you don't like it, maybe just don't laugh and move on to another post. Second, I would point out that the word "great" is presented as a quote in the cartoon and is likely meant to mean the opposite of what it says. For those who still don't get it, great in this case means NOT so great.

sparktrician,

I second your comment, we all have choices and free will.

Until either poor judgment, alcohol or drugs are used.

Sorry for losses suffered by others.

LMAO, Actually thats a funny and true statement. To those who dont think it is You take yourself to serious. Lighten up have some fun. laugh a little before you die.

The "great ideas" come after just a few drinks, when you begin to feel the effects of the alcohol, not when one is sloppy drunk. I find humor in this statement, and am sympathetic with those who have lost loved ones due to the effects of alcohol. We have to remember, that even if alcohol were banned nationally, there would still be alcohol and those who abuse it would still be able to get it. I know of more than one instance where the intoxicated driver was being pursued by law enforcement and would hit and kill someone. I personally feel that if a policeman or a patrolman would back off, the drunk driver would look for a place to get off the road and hide, which would pose much less threat to the public. JMHO.
