Note the (not) steel-toed sneakers.

In most developing countries, safety equipment is non-existent. Local companies seldom provide safety equipment and workers can rarely afford to buy it. I've seen workers in Egypt operating jackhammers while wearing sandals.

Consider yourself lucky the next time someone complains about OSHA (or its Aussie/Canuck/Brit equivalents).

Saw guys arc welding in Nigeria with no hood or gloves. Building nice looking wrought iron gates. Not that they could see them very well.

No such thing as OHSA outside of the US. I used to manage tooling installations for a living. The tooling was installed all over the world and boy oh boy the things you would see. I watched workers moving a heavy piece of equipment using steel pipes to roll it into position. All the workers were wearing flip flop sandals. I had to leave, I just couldn't watch. You should have seen some of the ladders that were used. Step ladders made out of fur 2X2's with a piece of copper wire holding them together. The management didn't want to spend the money to ship ladders to the job sites till I took a picture of the ladders that the local contractors were using.

Something can be said about looking dangerous. Seen too many foolish habits that rely on safety equipment like dust masks, safety glasses or ropes.

It's the newest in safety, everything in one unit. Hardhat, safety glasses, hearing protection and dust mask. One size fits everyone, even Herman Munster. Even the guard is still on the grinder.

Actually Chinese buildings and Korea Cambodia etc. Japan kind of outlawed most all of that stuff. House hold stuff is one 5hing but the crazy ones in developing countrys forget it!

OSHA is or was OK but like so many other agencies they have got out of control. Example, I need to loosen a bolt and there is no wrench that can be bought to do loosen it. I bend and grind it a little and the OSHA guy sees it and just goes ballistic.
Well I guess the answer is just send that expensive airplane to scrap and buy a new one.

That is funny. A lock keeps a honest man out .osha keeps a rich owner to work safe.some times osha does go to far.ill take it if they think the boogie man is comming and will cost $ they will work safe.

Safety third.
Safety first is a phrase that leads to complacency and injury. Your safety is ultimately your responsibility, not the CEO, not the safety not z,and not some bloated bureaucracy.
