Ford 8n pulling engine

Hi I'm new to the forum and am seeking some advice. I have an 8n that I want to soup up for a pulling/show tractor. I want to put in bigger pistons, valves, shave head and block, stroke the cam and crank and put on a bigger carb. I'm in Wisconsin and I'm trying to find an engine shop in WI, MN, or IA that will do the engine for me. If anybody knows of an engine shop that soups up N's let me know. I also am looking for another N to buy while my engine is being built. Anything under 1000 as long as it runs (doesn't have to be pretty) and is in Wisconsin or west Minnesota. If you have one to sell contact me @ [email protected]

Not really much air flow improvements you can do, not bashing your tractor or anything but from what I have done not much more horses to
get.

To be honest I’d start with a newer Ford and go with an overhead valve engine and start with at least a 172 or better yet a 192.

It is all about the rules where you are pulling. I have a 1952 8n with a Hi/Lo sherman transmission, that has a bone stock engine that I have won close to 100 trophies with, many of them first place, against some pretty tough tractors. Tires, weight and balance, hitch and track condition all come into play.It ain't all about horsepower.

They can do pretty well in a 2500 lb class, so an important thing is to get a little weight off it so that you have flexibility with where you put your weight.

There's a Ford 8N on Craigs list in Amboy,Il.just South of the Wis. border for $1000 asking price,try Rockford Craig's list,put in 8N search,815 499-9009-Brad is

Not all that much one can do with that flat head engine to get more HP out of them. Being a flat head it is hard to mill the block if it can even be done due to the valve seats. Milling the head much will have the valves hitting the head and cause them to break or bend or crack the head. By the time you have much is any more HP out of it you will have spent so much $$ it is not worth the time trouble or $$

With the Sherman underdrive in it you will do alright in 2500/3500 stone boat pulling.

On a transfer sled.... Not so much.

Your money would go leaps and bounds farther with an Oliver 60, Farmall Super C, Farmall H for 3500, or the like.
