Hotter Spark Plugs for 450 Farmall Block and Head

I already have the electronic ignition which I seen a considerable difference in pulling and I started using autolite instead of champions having pretty good luck there also. What I need to know is there a plug that would be worth buying that would give off a hotter spark? I always see a advertisements for E3, MSD, or NGK but have no idea if they would be worth trying. Thanks for the input.

Did you put the Flame thrower coil on tractor when you put the electronic ignition on it? Iam going to put electronic ignition on my 450 and AC WD45 and have read that you can open the gap up some on plugs .

One of the most respected engine builders of red tractors told me that the NGK W4R1 is his plug of choice, I have one DC running that plug and it works very well with them. The other I have not yet changed to that plug but the Autolite 3116 plug has served me well in that one.

Just a quick observation, I have one tractor with the 1142 Delco Pertronix module and one with the newer 91142 Ignitor2 and both work well, the newer module is not sensitive to coil choiceand will fire low ohm coils without danger of burning out. The newer module is more expensive but gives you way more coil options.

I know there are some who still use champ plugs but I left them years ago due to fouling issues, I worked in a professional shop for 50+ years and service calls to replace newly installed plugs at no charge is unacceptable. One thing I have noticed about those that use champs is they are running several heat ranges higher than the old DC Case D16 recommendation.

Good luck as you sort this out

NGK are good plugs in most machines. If you are having ignition problems, take a good look at your distributor: loose bushings, worn or sticky centrifugal advance and weak advance springs are common in 60 year old engines. They can throw off ignition timing or make it erratic.

Hotter spark ? The arc between the electrodes is already super heated plasma gas at 30,000 degrees . Hotter spark will not matter to the air fuel mixture that ignites at approx 495F .

I you really want a good ignition or just want to ask ignition questions look up this site.
c5ignitions Paul is very knowledgeable and willing to help answer questions. If you have Facebook he is on there also.

Energy across the plug gap depends upon how many joules of energy is released when the magntic flux collapses inside the coil when the primary winding is de-energized. Not by some whiz bang spark plug.

With electronic ignition you should go one heat range colder spark plug than stock. I take it your running 8 MM wires no solid copper wires on electronic system.
