My stupid question for the week. I have seen pulls advertise 3000rpm max. What has to be done to governor and carb to accomplish this? I have no clue and no plans to do it, just wondering. Thanks Lee

I would think you would want to do it electronicly. Infact I heard them working this weekend at Badest Antique pull at Richmond Ky.

Stronger springs in (or on) governor: lighter weights: electronic rpm limiters: as far as carburetor goes : lots of larger replacement options. Not difficult to do that. Main goal is be sure engine (rods, cam, crank, valve springs , etc.)..will handle it. Remember: 6 cyl automotive engines will do twice that. Same principles apply.

IH gas engine are tough. Back in the early 70's dad And I built a modified pulling tractor from a F30 rear end and a Allis wd front end with a LP self propelled combine engine around 300 cubic inch . I rebuilt engine and put a truck clutch and flywheel with three speed tans. coupled to the F30 trans. We put 1/2 plate steel around bellhousing and three speed trans. with 18.4X38 tires. We took governor off and hooked throttle direct to carb.and it would turn 6,000 RPM. and held together. Picture getting so old that its not clear.
