1 wire alternater

All kinds of them out there. I have some of the small mini ones on several of my tractors. They range from 30 amps and up. If you are just charging a battery they work fine. If you have an electric fan you will need more. I think I bought one from Charlie's Repair. It was a kit for Farmall with the mounting bracket and alternator. It was a pretty good deal. You could also put a Deleo 10 si which are every where they are a full sized unit and can be difficult to fit under the hood. Call your local auto/truck electric shop, they can help you out also.

The one wire alternators don't use an excite wire so you don't need to install a diode, they are self exciting, hence only one wire.

(quoted from post at 11:30:37 02/10/17) Thanks for the reply. The mini ones that you used do they use a 5/8"belt? If they do what brand and model are they?

Having a hard time getting your question answered huh? You must provide and install your own pulley on the alternator, the alternators come bare.

The 10SI Delco is probably the most popular changeover alternator in use but the one wire alternators can sometimes be hard to excite at lo RPM. There is a special regulator made that will solve that problem, D10AC is its parts designation but it requires disassembly and removal of an item and the new reg and internal wiring installed to feed AC from the stator. I have modified several and my 830 Case will charge better than 30 A at a idle.

With a very minimum of hookup the old 3 wire system is hard to beat.
