John Deere A RPM's

Well, you can unhook the carb from the governor and run straight from hand lever to carb? You can get all the rpm you want...AND probably a bushel basket full of broken parts you DON'T want. Torque is what pulls...not rpm...max torque on a 2 cyl is limited by design. Wan't more pull...stroke it.

I've never paid attention to how an "A" is,
but on my "G", I shortened the linkage from
the govenor spring to the carb. Just wind it
in a few turns at a time and try it until it
gives you the rpm you want. If you go too
far you lose low idle. A new govenor spring
from Deere helped too.

I made a spring out of 1/8" steel for a
while, which more or less gave me direct
link to the carb and more rpm than you'd
ever want to give it. I wouldn't go that
route.

Open up the operator's manual. There is a couple of pages of procedures how to set the carb, idle speed and fast idle.
Unless the eyebrows are machined, valve and seat machining, port cleanup, port matching, heavier valve springs and a re-ground cam installed. The A and the 60 are loosing torque by 800 rpm and fall flat on their face over 1100rpm.
