Hey guys:

Ive heard the chevy inline 6 cylinder line will bolt in oliver tractor. How much work is required to do this and is it really a great improvement over the Waukesha? Whats the biggest Waukesha engine that will bolt in a 77? 310,320, or bigger power unit engine?

Just wondering what options are other than the factory block/engine

Back in the 60's and maybe the 70's, GMC had some really BIG displacement V-6's..some were over 470 Co In and ALL had 7 Main Bearings..

I wonder if anyone has given them any thought for "Pulling Engines"..?

I have not seen any in years, tho..

The 310 and 320 will both bolt right in. Use 88 or 880 clutch, backplate and bellhousing. Cut 3/4" off output shaft. Not many places will let you run the chevy and the Waukesha is a better engine anyway in my opinion.

a 310/20 does not just bolt in, the holes in the frame of a 77 are closer front to back and need to be reamed out, V6 jimmies don't have 7 main bearings, better re-read your FM bearing book

Then a 320 is differen't than a 310. If a 310 bolts into an 88 frame then a 320 won't if it bolts right into a 77 because the bolt holes are farther apart on an 88. I have measured them. I suppose it would work if you use 1/4 inch bolts.

This is one of the times I have to say I was wrong. I don't know how I made a mistake measuring one several years ago but I went and measured a 77 and 88 block I have and I stand corrected.

Were you experiencing double vision? Explain to me how you get seven mains in a v6 engine. With 2 rods between each main that makes four mains as the Federal Mogul book shows. 1,2&4 are 2401ap and 3 is a 2403ap.

Dieseltech I knew a fellow Henry Sandifer that had a v12 GMC in a 88 Oliver years ago,it pulled pretty darn good. It may still settin in a shed I don't know.
