Tractor hauling trailors.

If you guys were to buy a Fifth wheel 30 fto open trailor. what would you buy and who would you buy it from. The one I own now is made By JP it has pretty much been indestructible I have used it a lot.

If I was going to buy a new Fifth Wheel I would buy a PJ trailer and I would buy it from Funk Trailer Sales Morris, Ill. Three years ago I bought a PJ 24ft. low pro file 102" wide bumper pull. I tried every PJ dealer in a 200 mile radious of home and everyone was telling me 8-12 weeks for delivery. If I would have wanted a 96" wide they all had them. I called Funk Trailer Sales and he told me 5 weeks for delivery and it was 5 weeks to the day he gave me a call that trailer was in. I looked a Liberty,Kaufman, Sure trac, Big Tex,Hudson, and Beaver Creek and liked the the low pro file PJ because it had a very good feed back from people that owen them.

Second PJ have had several and had a powder coating a few years ago but that has been taken care off.Really like the monster ramps.

PJ sent me a card about a year after I got my trailer and was telling me they had just come out with a hydraulic dovetail that could be put on my trailer. I looked into to it but would have add to much weight to trailer cutting down on payload. I will stick with the three stand up ramps.

I have a long PJ tandem dual gooseneck. it has been good. No problems except powder coat. You have to really keep after it, because the rust travels fast under the plastic. We should all band together and demand primer under the plastic. It would really be worth extra money to me.

What are you referring to as "plastic"? The powder coating? If so, it is not plastic and you can not primer underneath it. The process of powder coating involves applying a current to bare metal and the negative charge in the powder coating then sticks to the metal and it is baked on. Most powder coating last years and is 10x better than paint. They must use a poor powder coating system or you just happen to have got a bad one.

The powder sticks due to electrostatic charge as opposed to a current charge. Then it gets heated to melt the plastic, whichever one of two types of plastic it is. I have numerous things that are powder coated. Most came that way, some I have had coated. For many applications it is great, although I have noticed that for instance on a show tractor the powder coat is getting very fine scratches from dusting after a show whereas the paint with hardener next to it does not. I have learned that when I have something where the protective coating is coming off in large sheets to check it, and sure enough it is powder coat. Maybe I use my trailer hard, but anyway, where stones nick it on the front, where chains hook on the sides, and where the ramps fold over on the rear, it gets down to bare metal and the rust travels very quickly under the powder coat. I keep after it by peeling up loose coating, then priming and painting to try to seal the moisture from getting under it. I had one piece with a little dent that my local coater said was no problem to fill it, but he said to use epoxy instead of filler as the filler would not take the heat of the oven. In its place powder coating is great. Not so much on a trailer that is going to be used.

I bought a PJ 28' 102" wide 2 years ago, mind you I don't run it in the salt so it still looks new, but we have one at work and yes, once it starts there is no stopping the rust. I looked at other manufacturers and to me none compare to the PJ other than Gatormade, but the price shows it. I bought mine from Teitsworth Trailers, local, bought it through work, and they sold it to me at cost.

Midsota trailers! They are a heavy duty built. And there paint last long time. Had mine for 6 years and it still looks new. My PJ bumper pull is 3 years and its already starting to rust. Midsota price was the same as the PJ.

Just rode with a friend to a pull 250 miles away. 3 tractors on a PJ 30 ft Hyd dovetail. With a Cummins Dodge in front. As good ad it gets. All I had to do was ride and run the remote when we got there. Get Hyd landing legs on front also.

that's a nice rig , I can't get that many on and stay under 26000 . if each tractor only weighs 4500, and they must weigh more than that, a tandem dually trailer will weigh about 6300 and my truck 9000 . they would lock me up . you live in a state that gives a lot more leeway , lucky you .

have a friend that came over the Nice bridge from Maryland and went past the scales in Va. they chased him down and over the scales he went . he had 5 tractors on coming from the pull . he was over weight on one wheel . they gave him a chance to reload the tractors but he couldn't get the overload taken care of . 450 for the fine and leave one tractor at the scales . I don't want that .

(quoted from post at 13:51:50 03/25/15) We were over 36000. You just look at the ground scrape your feet and play farmer.

If some teen kid on their cell phone pulled out in front of your friend and got hurt bad he'd be in jail.

Just bought a 35 foot low profile loadmax 24000 lb axels from Hanflands in Seigel Il.Seems like a nice one well built

Load Trail. The one I have is 28'x102", drive over fenders, flat deck with no dovetail and 3 ramps. I upgraded to 17.5 tires. The trailer pulls great and I am very happy with it. The quality was great too.
Load Trail website

Load Trail is made across the street from PJ trailer in Sumner,TX. From what I was told that Load Trail was started up by several guy that left PJ trailer.

PJ also has a plant in Ohio. I ordered my trailer in early 2012 and mine came out of Texas. Dealers at that time said the paint job was better out of the Texas plant. If I couldn't of got a PJ I was going to get a Load Trail they both cost about the same.

your PJ has paint?

Finish Line Trailers is a great trailer. I have one of their dump trailers and I'd say it easily wins in about every category over a pj, big tex, H&H, etc. Their flat bed trailers are equally as nice and have all the bells and whistles. Also you can order them how you want them. A lot of guys around here are getting a big "square" up on the hitch of the 5th wheel, so you can set like the bucket or forks of a skid loader. They also have the hydraulic dove tail.

Made in Red Oak, IA. Neils Trailer Outlet in nebraska is about the best priced on them and where I went to get my trailer at the time
