How hard are hard tires?

Have any of you put a durometer to your tires to see how hard they are? I was always told you need hard tires but would like to know how hard that is, how hard is new tires, and can they be too hard. A old guy told me they need to be harder than Dick's hat band, but I would like a better way to measure.(lol)

I have hard tires send me one and I'll take a reading . I doubt if many others have one either .

Durometer hardness on brand new tires 75, heat soaked for 48 hours 88-90, old weathered tires 90. These numbers are from checking farm tractor Firestones 14.9x38 on up to Puller 2000's. Readings were consistent for all sizes of Firestone, have not checked other brands of tires.

This is kind of a follow up on tire hardness. Even though heat-hardened tires and old age-hardened tires check the same durometer, new heat-hardened tires did not behave like a "tough" old worn down set of age-hardened tires. Heat-hardening seems to act like case hardened steel, i.e., hardened outer surface, but the core is still pliable. My experiment with heat-hardened new tires at Harrisburg didn't work well at all.
