310 Diesel Conversion

Good Morning, kicking around the idea of building a pulling tractor, I have a 310 Diesel out of an industrial piece of equipment, and have a Oliver 88 row crop chassis or a Super 88 Chassis. Can you guys tell me what I am going to be looking at to get this thing fitted in one of these chassis, which chassis maybe better??? Any issues I might run into with the water pump, rear drive shaft, oil pan/ sump, hood/ side curtains??? Just by looking at it and measuring it looks like it will bolt in the tub, but not sure if some of these other components are going to fit or hit. Any info would be great, thank you.

It will go in easy. I had to move the radiator forward inside the nose cone also ran electric fan. You can make the 310 water pump work with a different hose. Use the 88/S88 bellhousing, flywheel and clutch. You most likely will have to beef up the clutch with stiffer springs. I would use the 88 chassis it is slightly lighter so you will have more movable weight in the 4500lb classes.

We have a 310D in a 77. Been a while, but seems like a chevy K20 clutch. Fan will hit the radiator. Need to use a electric fan. A electric water pump will save a lot of weight. The waterpump and thermostat housings are heavy. Seems like steering shaft is to short. Use 1/2 pipe and 1/2 universal joints.(get them at Walmart) A light weight starter from a Ford school bus works also. Front pedestal from a 66 fits also. Light weight front hubs (5 on 5) from TSC or rural king. Have fun! Vic
